Knee pain is frequently a load-tolerance problem: the demand placed on the joint exceeded what the surrounding tissue was prepared for. Mechanics at the hip and ankle influence how that load is distributed.

What to do

Reduce aggravating load temporarily rather than stopping all activity, then rebuild progressively. Swelling, instability, locking, or an inability to bear weight should be evaluated promptly.
